According to Genesis, what length did Noah’s Ark measure?

The story behind the answer

According to Genesis, Noah’s Ark measured 300 cubits in length. Genesis 6:15 gives the Ark’s dimensions as 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high.

A cubit was an ancient measurement commonly associated with the distance from an adult’s elbow to the tip of the middle finger. Its exact length varied by culture and period, so converting the Ark’s dimensions into modern units produces estimates rather than one universally certain figure. Using a cubit of about 45 centimetres gives a length near 135 metres.

The biblical dimensions describe a very long, rectangular vessel rather than a conventional ship with a pointed bow. Modern replicas often choose a specific cubit length and construction method, which explains why their published measurements differ. The 300-cubit figure itself comes directly from Genesis and is independent of those modern interpretations.
