Todd Haley was fired as head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs on December 12, 2011.

Haley had coached Kansas City since 2009 and led the team to a surprising 10–6 record and AFC West title in 2010. That success made his dismissal in the following season notable, but the Chiefs began 2011 unevenly and fell to 5–8 after a 37–10 loss to the New York Jets.

The firing came with three games remaining in the regular season. Defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel took over as interim head coach and guided the Chiefs to a 2–1 finish, including an upset victory over the previously undefeated Green Bay Packers. Crennel later became the team’s permanent head coach for 2012.
