Who managed the Cincinnati Reds for the first time in 2008?

The story behind the answer

Dusty Baker managed the Cincinnati Reds for the first time in 2008. The Reds hired him in October 2007, and he led the club throughout the 2008 season.

Baker arrived in Cincinnati with extensive managerial experience. He had previously managed the San Francisco Giants from 1993 through 2002 and the Chicago Cubs from 2003 through 2006. His first Reds season ended with a 74–88 record and a fifth-place finish in the National League Central.

The appointment was historically significant: Baker became the first Black manager in Cincinnati Reds history. He remained with the organization through 2013, compiling a 509–463 regular-season record. His tenure included the Reds’ 2010 division title and their first postseason appearance in 15 years.

The main possible confusion is Pete Mackanin, who managed Cincinnati during part of 2007 as an interim manager. Baker replaced him before the 2008 season began.
