Halle Berry played the voice of Cappy in the animated movie “Robots.” Cappy is a capable executive at Bigweld Industries and becomes the love interest of Rodney Copperbottom, the film’s ambitious young inventor.
Released in 2005, “Robots” was directed by Chris Wedge and produced by Blue Sky Studios and 20th Century Fox Animation. The story takes place in Robot City, where Rodney travels to meet his hero, the inventor Bigweld. He soon discovers that the company’s new leadership plans to replace older, poorer robots with expensive upgrades.
Berry’s role is part of a prominent voice cast. Ewan McGregor voices Rodney, Robin Williams plays the energetic Fender Pinwheeler, Mel Brooks voices Bigweld, and Greg Kinnear plays the villainous Phineas T. Ratchet. Amanda Bynes voices Piper Pinwheeler, Fender’s younger sister.
The film combines science-fiction themes with a visual world built from mechanical parts, household objects, and imagined machines. Cappy is sometimes confused with a human character because Berry’s celebrity is more recognizable than the robot’s name, but Cappy is explicitly a robot executive in the movie.
