It took the Warriors 4 games to defeat the Cavaliers in the 2018 NBA Finals. Golden State won the series 4–0, completing a sweep with a 108–85 victory in Game 4 on June 8, 2018.
The matchup marked the fourth straight year that Golden State and Cleveland had met in the NBA Finals. The Warriors had won the 2015, 2017, and 2018 championships, while Cleveland’s historic 2016 title came after overcoming a 3–1 series deficit against Golden State.
In 2018, however, the Cavaliers could not win a game. Golden State controlled the series behind Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green. Durant was named Finals MVP after producing an all-around statistical line across the four games.
The sweep gave Golden State its third championship in four seasons and was the franchise’s second Finals sweep. It was also the first NBA Finals sweep since San Antonio defeated Cleveland in 2007. In a best-of-seven series, four wins is the minimum needed to become champion.
